Extended Work Hours Beginning April 17
April 14, 2023 - Construction crews continue to make progress on the Jim Miller Pump Station (JMPS) improvements. A new water transmission main needs to be connected to the distribution system during a 3-week scheduled outage of the existing main.
Beginning April 17 to May 7, the contractor will work from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. extending work hours by one hour to allow the contractor to complete the tie-in to connect the new water transmission main during the scheduled shutdown. This work will not disrupt water service for DWU customers.
On Monday, April 17, prior to 7 a.m., DWU crews will be onsite to perform valve closures. Closing valves isolates JMPS from the distribution system and is a required safety measure for the performance of the shutdown work. The valve closures will be on Jim Miller Road, will not require heavy equipment, and impacts are expected to be minimal to area residents.
From Wednesday, April 19 to April 24, construction crews will be performing dewatering of existing piping that may require a 24-hour operation dependent on the amount of water that can’t be fully isolated by valve closures. The dewatering sites will be on the JMPS site adjacent to Jim Miller Road and adjacent to I-30 near the St. Francis overpass. Overnight impacts to residents are expected to be minimal as work is not likely to be noticeable to residents in their homes.
Partial road closures will continue along Jim Miller Road. The closures are needed to maintain road safety from the dewatering operation. To plan your commute please visit this page for information on traffic detours.
